Lemonade Day is a free community-wide program dedicated to teaching students how to start, own, and operate their own business throught the simple and time-honored act of building and running a lemonade stand. Lemonade Day took place on May 1st, 2011 as 60,000 new entrepreneurs hit the streets of Houston.
The Mayor and community leaders explained the “sweet taste of success” to the youth that comes with owning and operating their own successful lemonade business. In addition, backpacks were distributed to youth that a plan to participate in Lemonade Day that contain workbooks that explain how to be successful entrepreneurs.
“Our children are our future. Lemonade Day gives them a taste of what is required for success. What they learn from participating in this American tradition will have an impact many years into their careers,” said Mayor Annise Parker, City of Houston.
Lemonade Day was born in Houston in 2007, and was inspired by the lessons local entrepreneur and philanthropist Michael Holthouse taught his young daughter and her friend when they set-up a lemonade stand.
