Stanley Kubrick was an American filmmaker. His poor high school grades made it impossible to attend college. He did take some photography classes at CCNY but never graduated from any college. Having become interested in photography in as a teen, he became a staff photographer for Look magazine at age 17. His directorial debut came in 1957 with the film Paths of Glory. All of his movies express a formal visual style and meticulous attention to detail. His most memorable works include 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange and The Shining.
